My wife lives with me in Canada, I am going to send the application to sponsor her, since she has a visitor status. I want to know if there would be a problem at the airport if she goes for two weeks to her homeland. No visas are required for her country. Anyone knows?

If her visitor visa is valid, there should be no problem with her returning to Canada after visiting her home country. However, the visitor visa is not a guarantee for re-admission, and she could still be refused entry, though it is not likely, unless there is good reason.

Canada does not have regulations preventing a person in the process of immigration from leaving and re-entering the country. (The U.S.A. does, Canada does not).

If her visitor visa is near expiry, then I would rethink the trip. I had no problem re-entering just two days from expiry, but that was from the U.S. with mitigating circumstances.

If she has an application for visitor visa pending, then she cannot leave and come back in, as she would not have in hand the proper documentation (visitor visa). She must have this with her!

As always, please contact Canada Immigration directly for important questions such as this, to make sure you have correct information for your specific situation.

She "cannot" leave the country once that appl is sent in. I just did this, I know exactly whats going on with visitor visa and everything. You don't need an immigration lawyer, this can easily be handled. http.cic.gc.ca or 1-888-242-2100

if she has visitor visa, she should fall under that legislation.
even though you start a sponsorship application it is irrelevant because it is not granted yet.

the best bet, talk with one immigration officer at the airport.
