I suspect some do and some don't-Pagan is a blanket term that covers hundreds, probably thousands of religious beliefs.

As for me well sort of-I know magic exists and I am sure it CAN be used to cause harm but doing so is very risky so I doubt many people are stupid enough to do so.

If you mean do we believe that energy can be used to cause harm, then yes.

Magickal energy is just like electricity - it can be of great aid when used with knowledge and respect, or it can be very dangerous.

You can cause the same negative "hex" effect within any particular spiritual tradition, so it's certainly not just a Pagan (notice the capitalization there - we are talking about a proper religion here) phenomenon. However, NeoPagans (who I'll assume you were meaning by your use of the term "pagan") GENERALLY adhere to very specific ethical codes that discourage negative actions (either physical or spiritual); the exact wording of this ethical code varies from tradition to tradition. Basically it all boils down to "do unto others as you would have done unto you", or "if it harms no one, then do what you will", or "you reap what you sow", or "what goes around comes around" are all different ways to say it. However, when it comes to self-defense there is a bit more leeway, but still thoughts are given as to ways that would have the most physical impact with the least karmic impact.

When you get into non-Abrahamic faiths of other countries and places, you will find very different ethical standars that are specific that that culture. Many follow a more contextually-oriented ethical system. This is more an "is the act justified" kind of thinking. If someone has harmed you or your property, then you can take appropriate action. If they have killed or otherwise devastated a loved one, you can take much more dramatic action against them. "Eye for an eye"-type justice is often seen. Still there ARE ethics in play there. You don't hex someone just because they pissed you off, there must be REAL justification for whatever act you perform. Those who shirk these ethics are shunned and ostracized as they threaten the social order of these societies.

So you see, the question can generally be answered - yes Pagan and NeoPagans believe in hexes. But when/if/how they are used in closely dictated by culturally-appropriate ethical standards.

Okay, Obscure gets brownie points for the pun. ;)

As for hexes, it depends on the pagan. We're NOT all Wiccan, we DON'Tall follow the Rede or the Threefold Law, and we are NOT a single religion. For me, yes, I will curse someone if it seems like they'll get away with whatever they did to harm me otherwise. If they're the kind of person who eventually gets enough rope to hang themselves without my help, I don't waste my time.

Certainly not all of them. Pagan's a blanket term, it encompasses several religions.

I do. I think they can have debilitating effects whether people believe in them or not. Bad energy is bad energy and we are receptive to it. Namaste
