Your question really scares me. I am a working class guy, just starting to get ahead. Here in New Orleans we depend on the support of the rest of the nation. We are in a hard way right now. Your question implies that the nation perceives us as less deserving. I ask for, nor expect to receive any financial aid. I have received a grand total of $214.00 form FEMA. I do ask for the opportunity to rebuild what was a jewel.
Am I an embarrassment to you? You tell me.

ok i will say this i live in new orleans and it is not an embarrassment to the u.s. you apparently listen to what people say and that is pitiful. you can't always believe the media fool. it is just like any big city out there. it has its ups and down. we were just pointed out in so many ways because of katrina and the shootings. every place in the u.s. has shootings just half the people are not informed on them. new orleans is an amazing place and it has some very interesting things to do. for anyone that has something bad to say about the place has probably not even been there yet. People are saying that katrina was and embarrassment well it was nature of god and noone can control things like that. so just deal with it and make it the best that you can. it was an accident.

New Orleans is just like any other large US city, but it just happened to get the spotlight. Don't believe everything the news tells you either.....I was there. Politics have a way of working into everything and things get spun with an agenda in mind. The finger got pointed at the feds, but the real blame, if any is to be dished, should go to the local government and the governor.

The people are not an embarrassment, only the developers who didn't plan on natural disasters relocating 2/3 of the city's population. They should definitely not try to rebuild for as soon as they do, another hurricane will come through. In fact, that proposal goes for all beach property. That's the reason home insurance is so freakin' high, thanks to those people who wish to build their home 10 feet from the ocean. Would you build your home 10 feet from the San Andreas Fault knowing an earthquake was imminent? I think not.

Not to the citizens. It is an embarrasment to our government...or should be....if our government had a conscience.
It is the citizenry that is helping to rebuild that area while FEMA and the government has thrown away our tax dollars that were supposed to do it. We, the people, have nothing to be ashamed of.
Bush and the boys, on the other hand, should hang their collective heads in shame.

the city officals and state and local goverments are the embarrassment not the city. the people did nothing worng. it was the people that were supposed to be leading the city and state that did wrong. they are here to protect us and look out for out best interst and do whats best for us and they did none of that what so ever. do not blame that on the city its self, blame it on the people who run the sity and state

Katrina was something due to happen. They were talking about this for years and it could have been much much worse. What happened in the few days after Katrina is a HUGE embarassment to the USA.
