You need to look at the manual, however, I have always been told between 60-70,000 is normal for timing belt change.
Good Luck,

If it was built before 02/94 its 60000 or 5 years which ever is sooner
If it was built after 03/94 then its 80000 or 5 years which ever is sooner
I'd say get it sorted straight away or it's gona cost a lot more.
Don't forget to have the pulleys changed aswell cos they can fail and you'll end up in the same boat as if the belt snapped.

you should change it now , you have passed the recommended cambelt change intervals by 12.000 miles !!
normally changed every 36.000 miles,
make sure to buy a full cambelt kit inc idlers
good luck and hope it doesn't brake in the mean time,

I'd do it any time because if the belt breaks, there's a good chance you'll have pistons hitting valves, ruining them and the head and it'll cost more to fix than what the car is worth. In this case, a little preventative medicine is definately in order.

zetec or diesel?
1.8 zetec - every 65k.
1.8 diesel - every 50k (2 belts to be done)
change it if you have no history or knowledge of the cars past or if it hasnt been changed in the last 3 years.
sunflower- that relates to the cvh engine, 1.8 cvh doesnt exist in europe.

With any cam belt, if in any doubt, ignore all history unless you know it is gospel, and ..... CHANGE IT
And do the tensioners as well for peace of mind

assuming it's been changed every 36-40000 miles at a guess i'd say in another 24000 (but if you don't know when it was last changed i'd say as soon as possible to be on the safe side)

Normally every 40 - 60 thousand miles.
If there is no evidence of a previous change, it is time.

If it's a belt and not a chain, 98 and newer every 120,000 miles.
Unless something goes wrong of course.
