Personally, I would suggest a light green for the walls (like Sherwin Williams "baize green") and then red for the door & trim. Although, SW does have a light red color called "red cent" that would look fab with dark cabinets, too.
One of my favorite programs on right now is HGTV's "spice up my kitchen." Check out their "after" photos to see if anything inspires you:

Chocolate and pink are the hot new colors, and I know you can get alot of pink kitchen utensils. However, if that is too feminine, I think an apple red (as opposed to a tomato red) would look very nice. The green door should be a light green or sage green, not dark.
Good luck!

I think the green is a great idea. Use a very light green like the colour of a granny smith apple. The red, not so sure. You could paint your doors and trim white and use some red accents like placemats napkins etc. Hope this helps and by the way, if it feels right to you to use those colours go for it.

i think avocado green is best for chocolate brown details - in your case, the cabinets.
it will play contrast on the dark shade and it will blend well to other kitchen related valuables (like gold, porcelain or silverwares) which the color green adapts. Aside from that, it is also one of the best colors that can be applied in the kitchen space for it creates an ambience of cool and clean environment.
it is also adaptable to any kind of interior base concepts when and how you want it, like from classic style when mixed it with gold accents or wood style detail fixtures, or it can be modern mixed with bright colors such as carnation pinks or hot red or even yellow, or you go contemporary and vintage when adapted it with colors like earth-browns.
for your idea of the apple theme, its ok too for green and browns.(^^,)
goodluck.:-)

How about a nice spring green color? Like granny smith apples...it's bright, looks great with brown, and goes with apples...

Pale yellow would look really well with both the brown cabinets and the apples.

Gold, yellow, russet, orange - think autumn. I'd probably suggest something to lighten up the room, depending on your current lighting situation.
Apples go well with an autumn theme

hey mother -
i respectfully disagree with the answer that said gold (just my opinion) ... whenever i see gold and dark brown together i usually think too 'old looking' or too 'country' but maybe you want that i dunno
i vote for medium beige with a slight gold touch to it!
