There is a verse in Bible regarding Storm when Jesus and his desciples were in the Boat. When Peter woke him up, Jesus said to him "Dont you have faith". Then he stopped the storm. How do you interpret what he meant when he said "Dont you have faith"?

Hey...

is the story you're talking about? (Matthew Ch 8 v 23 to 26):

"Jesus got into a boat, and his disciples went with him. Suddenlya fierce storm hit the lake, and the boat was in danger of sinking. But Jesus was asleep. The disciples went to him and woke him up. "Save us Lord!" they said. "We are about to die!"
"Why are you so frightened?" Jesus answered. "How little faith you have!" Then he got up and ordered the winds and the waves to stop, and there was a great calm."

Well, I interpret that to mean that the disciples had seen what Jesus could do before, but did not trust him completely with their lives. Another similar story is when Jesus was walking on water and called Peter to come and join him, which required faith. He walked on water for a while, but then got scared by all the waves and started sinking, calling out for Jesus to save him. Jesus critiscised him for his lack of faith and helped him back into the boat. (Matthew Ch 14 v22 to 32)

Hope that helps!

I interpret that as Peter lacking faith.

I assume that Peter saw the storm and thought well, since Jesus is asleep he doesn't know that there is a storm and we are all going to perish in this storm. He was human. He was scared and was not thinking of the awesome power of Jesus.

Jesus was on the boat, so it stands to reason that He was not going to let everyone on the boat perish and He himself perish. Since He is omnipotent He knows everything, He knew there was a storm, and He knew that no one would Perish.

I believe it was a test of faith for Peter.

Think about it, there is no interpretation to that verse, there was a storm Peter thought they were going to died even though Christ was with them and Jesus ask him if he had faith. Alot of people make that mistake, don't over analyze scripture it say's what it says theres not always some hidden meaning.

The answers previously given, that the story illustrates that the disciple should have had faith in Jesus, is no doubt true. I don't believe for one minute that the story is true. It is like a lot of the stories about Jesus, told to make a point. By the way, did you really want Christians to help you, or are you just being provocative?

Matthew 8:23-27 (New International Version)

23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" 26He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

Jesus was pretty clear when He asked His disciples why they didn't have faith...He wants us to trust in Him and know that He has our best interest at heart.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
~Jeremiah 29:11 (New International Version)~

Jesus was constantly reminded that the Apostles didnt know the depth of the reasons for what He was doing. He was reminding Peter to have faith that the storm would not destroy them.

Because Jesus said just a few minutes before, "Let us go OVER to the other side." He did not say, "Let us go UNDER."

The fact is, the boat will never sink as long as Jesus is in the boat. Same with your life, your marriage, etc. Don't let the storms in life frighten you if you have Jesus as Lord.

They were in the boat with the Son of God. I believe what Jesus meant by that was how could they even think of perishing while He was in the boat. He had done so many miracles in their sight, how could they think they would perish when they have Him in the boat. But we are that way many times as well, we have the Word of God, but either we don't read it, or we refuse to believe it and when the storms come into our lives, we cry out "careth not that we perish?"

at first read I thought it was like someone above answered, and Jesus was saying "do you really think God is going to drown Jesus and his disciples."
but I heard a sermon about it, and the preacher said we have nothing to fear. Even in our storms today. God is all powerful and we steer the boat but we are always in his sea. When things look good or bad, God works for the good of those who love him. I like that better, and like other good answers have said, "we have nothing to fear."

When we're in a storm in our lives, as they were in a storm in that boat, we forget that Jesus is there for us and can help calm our storms, if we only trust in Him, have faith in Him.
