This is what I have heard from my friends.
The three main branches, US Army, USN, and USAF, just don't get well enough with each other. (I am excluding USMC because they should be kind of relying heavily on USN, correct me if that is not true)
Whenever it comes to defense budget allocation they criticize each other over what is redundant or even useless.
My friend also told me that USAF generally hates the Army especially and consider it the dirtiest job on battlefield.
Also, he said there are stories about how the USN cheered when a F-14 shot down a F-15, and F/A-18 shooting down a F-22A during mock battles. While the simulation results are absolutely true, did this "cheering" part really happened?
I know this sounds like a weird question, but I am just curious because US forces are the absolute symbol of military might, cooperating with each other closely to produce the finest effiency... at least that is the cover story lol ... I just want to know more side stories about it...

All branches of the US military get along with each other.
There is a lot of friendly rivalry and the occasional 'turf war.' (Such as the Air Force wanting to control the Army's UAVs.)
However - there is a lot of mutual respect and camaraderie.
And if anybody from any branch of service is in trouble and needs help - everybody from all branches will drop what they are doing and take whatever risks are necessary to rescue him or her.

ok let me simplify this for you, first of all those are MOCK battles, (mock being the key word) and the cheering is equal to you cheering at a football game when your team scores. as for the fighting look at it this way, say you have a little brother, the two of you pick at each other and argue constantly....but when some bully comes along to beat him up on the playground your the first to jump in and save his butt, this is how the military works. they all have nicknames for each other.....all the other services call the AF the "chair force" and so on.......and yes the AF thinks the army is a dirty job (mostly because it is) but i guarantee if you go over to iraq and look you will see army, AF and Navy all fighting together and getting along fabulously. what your friends are telling you is an exageration of good natured ribbing....and yes as the other posters have mentioned many times (especially in military towns) there will be barroom brawls and stuff of that nature between the services. (mostly because someone gets drunk starts the ribbing hard core, and someone else is an angry drunk and decides to fight back physically) but you could see these 2 guys on a battlefield 2 weeks later fighting to protect each others lives i can guarantee that.

Okay ... last I checked - there were still at least FOUR branches of the US Military (some say five - but I still flip flop on this issue when it comes to the Coast-Guard)
There's a certain degree of pride that comes from each branch... they're all VERY proud to be members of their particular branch. They don't cheer when someone else LOSES - they cheer that their "team" won. It's sort of like a sibling rivalry... you may tease or give crap to your siblings - but you'll be the first to stand up and help them if they need anything.
As far as budgets go... there's only SO much money to go around - and everyone wants the best for themselves (because they've all got worthy programs going on which need that funding). If there was some way to pay for it ALL - I'm sure they'd all opt for that.

There are really considered to be 5 branches of the military BUT who controls them is different. The army and air force are all part of their own respective departments. The Navy and the marines (marines are really navy foot soldiers) are under Department of the Navy and the Coast Guard is part of the transportation department. All work together however to protect the country using different methods and protect different things.
For instance the Coast Guard is really our first line of defense of our national borders from sea attack. Their patrols are only in US controlled waters. The navy patrols many other places (some that wont be spoken about for you submariners out there :P). Marines are meant to be deployed by sea and were initially meant for coatline battles while army was more originally meant as long term battle units (marines first in last out types)

Heck they never have. Back in the 20's the Army and Navy fought over the money for the air service. In the 40's the Army infantry and the Army Air Corps (soon to be the Air Force) fought over who would have control of the paratroops. In the late 40's early 50's, the Air Force and the Navy fought over the money for air power. Anytime money is involved there is a fight.

The military branches get along great with each other. There has always been some good-natured ribbing, but that's how you develop a thick skin when you're in the service.
You especially get along great when you are deployed in a forward area, and you realize that it's you against the enemy, so you have to rely on each other for security.
Hope this helps!

Ever since 1775 all 3 branches " Air force 1946" fought with each other. In fact the Marines fight with everyone. It is like siblings fighting. When it comes down to the real fight, we get along a little better.

Happens all the time in mock air battle in joint forces operations; means absolutely nothing! Operation between the Armed Forces of the United States has never been better than American history...

On the battlefield, they are all dependent on one another.
On civilian streets, it's another matter.
MP's often have their hands full breaking up fist fights between the branches.
Each branch considers themselves superior.
Always have, maybe always will.
NOT in the trenches.
During WWII, stateside, at a bar, a Jarhead pissed in a Seaman's hat.
All hell broke loose that night.
