They're both true. You need to have faith to see that the proof that is everywhere really is proof.

Both of these are right.
The first part is right because if God would actually come down and show himself everyone would believe and he wants to leave the free will aspect up to us. He wants people who will want to seek him out and see if he actually exists, not people who will just be robots. For example: God speaks of child like faith. When you tell a child there is a fat guy who flys reindeer all over the world to give presents to strangers kids (and ultimately gives the presents out regardless if you make his naughty list or not) all this in one night. The don't say "prove it" they believe. That's what kind of faith God wants from us, and when you do that he will reveal himself to you in the examples of the second part. Once you accept Christ you're eyes are open to see his work in all the things that the "everywhere" group probably spoke of. I am proof.
Do you know that it has been said that the chances of one person in history to fufill only eight of the prophecies that were written about Jesus in the Old Testament before Jesus actually had come are the same as marking one silver dollar with an "X" and burying it in a pile of other silver dollars two feet high, and that would totally cover the state of Texas, and then later finding that silver dollar marked with the "X". However Jesus fufilled over 300 of those old testiment prophecies. Also, some peopl (the Pharisees for example) will never believe ever, even if Jesus came down to them because their hearts are so hardened.

Who are you that God should prove Himself to you.
God gives you the free choice to believe or not believe, he does give certain signs like speaking in tongues, prophecy etc.
I challenge you with this, if you don't believe in God, go to a Pentecostal Church, if that Church is right with God, then I am sure that you walk away a believer. You will probably scared to death first.

Prove Himself? Is He God or your servant?
I'll give you a story instead:
There once was a man, all his life, he always consider himself to be an atheist/free thinker until one day, his christian friend challenged him to test God out when he is in a real jam. He scoffed at the notion and harden his heart.
One day, when he is really old, he decided to give it a shot as he was really determined to prove that God does not exist; he was so determined that he was even willing to die for it.
So he waited and waited and finally the opportunity came. It started to rain and rain and then rain turn to a flood. So he asked God to prove himself and save him from the flood.
The water level began to rise to his chest, he then started shouting for God to show up and prove himself. One of his neighbour heard him and told him to evacuate with them in their small boat.
Of course, staying true to his conviction, the atheist told his neighbour that he is actually challenging God to prove himself and that he is willing to die to prove his point that God does not exist. He also told his neighbour that if he dies, his neighbour should proclaim it to the world that God does not exist and that he is the proof.
So the water began to rise even higher that he had to move to the roof. He became even more beligerent sensing that victory is now very near. However, he spotted that there is a rescue helicopter coming his way so to ensure the integrity of his experiment, he hid himself from the rescue team.
And sadly, he eventually died of drowning. Unfortunately for him, after he died, God met with him. He was furious, he ask God where has he been all his life and why he did not prove himself and save him.
God answered and said that He was the one that sent out his neighbour to invite him to their boat, He was also the one that sent out a rescue helicopter for him. God also told him that He was the one that sent his christian friend to try to introduce God to him. Prove?
Open your heart, He is knocking.
For while we were yet sinners and His enemy, He laid down His life on the cross for us so that we may have a relationship with Him and everlasting life. What other proof do you need?
Embrace Him and experience peace that surpassess all understanding. He loves you and has always loves you.

He's already proven himself. If you believe he needs to prove himself again, the only way to do it would be to personally appear to every person on the planet. He would then have to appear to every newborn person at some point in the future as well. Kinda silly IMO.

Let's see what the Bible says:
Exod. 24:9,10; Amos 9:1; Gen. 26:2; and John 14:9
God CAN be seen:
"And I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my backparts." (Ex. 33:23)
"And the Lord spake to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh to his friend." (Ex. 33:11)
"For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." (Gen. 32:30)
God CANNOT be seen:
"No man hath seen God at any time." (John 1:18)
"And he said, Thou canst not see my face; for there shall no man see me and live." (Ex. 33:20)
"Whom no man hath seen nor can see." (1 Tim. 6:16)
Interesting......

He lacks confidence, so he needs lots and lots of people to believe in Him before he reveals himself.

He already did, He sent us His only begotten Son, it's not His fault if we choose not to believe. After all, He gave us free will.
