No one can really answer this question. There is no way to know if you got ripped off. And NO a vet has no way of being able to tell if the product is indeed authentic or not. The vet nurse who recommended this needs to be careful!! There is no test, no way to tell!
I can tell you that I would NEVER use any medication for my dogs from ANY online stores. Ebay, petmeds, PetRX, etc. The truth is.. you never know what you are getting! To me, my dogs health, safety, and well-being is worth the extra $ I would spend at the vet.
Here is a little blurb I wrote about all online companies...
Do NOT buy from 1-800-pet meds, Petmeds or any other online pet medication services! 1-800 pet meds is not a licensed pharamacy. It is your Vet's job to look out for the safelty of your pet. Your Vet can be held legally responsible if they write a script for 1-800 because it is VERY rare that Petmeds provides you with the correct, quality medication that you could otherwise purchase from your vet for typically around the same price. I do suggest you check out different prices through Vet offices in your area. Our Vet clinic is cheaper or as expensive as ALL the medications found on these internet companies.
Internet sites are largly unlicensed and unregulated by any state or federal agancy. Some companies, like 1-800 Petmeds, have been getting and selling products illegally. Some medications that have expired have been repackaged. Medications meant for distribution to Austrailia and other FOREIGN markets have also been obtained by these companies. Clients have received medications having instructions in a foreign language! Many of these internet companies have been prosecuted for selling COUNTERFEIT medications that are cheap medications or worse, harmful to the person or animal taking them.
Some sites buy cheap medications in THIRD WORLD countries where quality control is poor or doesn't even exist, and repackage and resell them at huge profit as licensed drugs from the United States which they certaintly are NOT. Other scams involve the numbers of tablets or medications. Drugs such as Heartguard and Frontline come in 6 or 12 counts from the manufactorer. Many consumers buy the large size thereby getting additional tablets or medications free. The internet companies don't want you to know that there are 6 and 12 packs or that you can actually get free product from your verterinarian (at my office... you purchase 6 months of Frontline and get one dose free).
Did you know that guarentees offered by the drug companies are VOID once the product is purchased over the internet by one of these companies? It's true!!
Purchasing questionable or substandard medications is not the answer- you are wasting your money and risking your pet's health.

it should be OK, take it to the vets to be sure. they can check it for you. i wouldnt personally get it from the internet.
as normal frontline has changed its drug category i would imagine this is the one you have. frontline combo/plus is prescription only so you shouldn't be able to get this from anyone but a vet.
as the new drug categories have changed people on eBay shouldn't be selling it. legally a vet, pharmacist or sqp (suitably qualified person) is allowed to prescribe frontline. i know this because i am an sqp.
check the packaging for its expiry date and condition of packaging. the packaging shouldn't be ripped or battered.
storage of the product shouldn't be too much of a concern as it needs to be kept under 30 degrees Celsius in England hard to reach but if in another country could be a problem.
if fleas are a problem at the moment in the house/ pet? as normal frontline doesnt have a added ingredient to protect the house a house hold spray is a good idea to kill fleas in the home.
take it to the vets if worried.

If your dog has a reaction to the Frontline the manufacturer of Frontline will not help you because you didn't buy it from a vet.
It could be counter fit, outdated whatever.
Next time buy from your vet.

To be honest who knows. It may it may not. Depends if it was kept in the proper conditions or even if it was the product you think you bough. It really is better to buy from a vet. They are the only sorces you know really will keep it right. I have known many people have problems with products bought at feed stores and online.
I would never take a chance on any of my animals health.
Hope it works for you. Gary V I saw that on Dateline too.

Frontline is a veterinary product. If it does not come from a vet office there is a change it can be counterfeit. You have no idea where the ebay buyer got the frontline.

There was a program lately on Dateline about counterfeiting.
Most of the products are fake, why take a chance on your dog being miserable and you wasting your money?
