In toronto you pay like 14% tax so how much in NY?

It's the 8.37%. It's the same tax on everything, food, tools, clothing, except for things under I believe $110. It's not the worst in the country, but it's enough. I guess if you pay 14% we should learn to stop complaining, just like we complain about gas prices here when they are so much less than in Europe. We have it better than we realize, but don't think about it. Thanks for the information.

if its under 8 people they will normally charge 8.375% to your bill....some hand written places will round it up. If you have a large party many times they will add a gratituity tax which can be as much as 15% to the bill to assure the tips to the wait staff..
