I'm starting to think that we need to find a new Pastor. He told us last Sunday that Jesus was Jewish.

How on earth does this make any sense? Obviously, Jesus was a Christian! Had he been Jewish, wouldn't his last name be Jew, instead of Christ? Duh!

Anyone else encounter this kind of stupidity in their church?

Isn't it OBVIOUS that Jesus was Jewish? Just think about it for a minute:

1.) He thought his mother was a virgin.

2.) His mother thought he was God.

3.) He lived at home till he was 33.

4.) He went into his father's business.

What more proof do you need?

No, Christianity began several years after Jesus' death. During his lifetime, it didn't exist. I suggest that before calling it "stupidity" you do a little bit of research on Christian history.
Jesus was Jewish because he was the son of a Jewish woman. His "last supper" was the Passover seder we Jews still celebrate year after year around of- what do you know?- Easter and conmemorates the our liberation from Egypt.

And "Christ" wasn't his last name! Are you serious??? It's not like he was named Jesus H. Christ. His disciples started calling him "Christ", which in Greek means "the anointed one", meaning his followers were claiming he was the Messiah. It's a title, not a last name.

So your pastor isn't stupid, he's absolutely right.

Wow, did you really not know that? Of Jesus was Jewish. I think you need to reconsider who is truly being stupid. Jesus and his disciples celebrated all the Jewish festivals. Also, Christ is NOT his surname that is his title. Really it should read Jesus the Christ as Christ means "anointed one" from the Greek word Christos. Jesus, as far as I know, had no surname as people at that time didn't. They were known by their first name and the place where they came from. Jesus was also known as Jesus of Nazareth.

Perhaps you should do some research.

He's right. Jesus was Jewish and remains Jewish and in the Bible clearly states he expects to have a Jewish celebration called the Sedar dinner with his disciples in Heaven in his Father's house.

The Last Supper was a Jewish celebration done every year for the last 5,800 years.

Christianity came about during the conversion of Pagans outside of the Middle East by followers of Jesus, who couldn't teach them to be Jewish, so they modified their Pagan rituals and turned them into new rituals.

Technically Jesus was preaching Reformist Judaism.

It's probably through Constantine's influence that the modern ritualistic and formal Christianity came about starting in 300 AD, but it certainly had roots with Peter and Paul and John in 35 AD in Rome, Corinthia, etc.

It's possible that Christ was Jewish because He was born of a Jewish woman, Mary. And the lineage, if I'm not mistaken, for Jews comes from the mother side

No, you are the one who is confused. Your pastor is correct, Jesus, while he was alive, was a Jew. The second part of his name "Christ" comes from the greek word "Christus" meaning savior. He was not known by the name in life, but only after death when the apostles began teaching the Gentiles (the nonJewish converts). Read some books on religious history and you will find I, and your pastor, are correct. To be a "Christian" literally means to be a "follower of the Christus". As Jesus is the Christus, then it is to be a follower of him and his teachings.

I do hope you're kidding.

Jesus' last name was not Christ. Christ is a title. Jesus should be properly called Jesus the Christ. The word 'Christ' is a transliteration of the Hebrew word meaning 'Messiah". Jesus was Jewish, he was also the awaited Messiah (Christ), the savior. He is therefore called Jesus Christ. Those who follow him and his ways are called Christian.

God Bless

Jesus was in fact born Jewish!

Christianity shares a common heritage, traditions and history with Judaism. Without Jewish religion there would be no Christ.

Read your bible.......Your pastor is correct......

He was born of a Jewish mother, circumcised in the Jewish temple, celebrated Passover and over his head on the Cross the inscription read "King of the Jews". Sounds like a Jew to me.

God promised the Jews that the Messiah would be born from among them, and he kept his promise.
