Why doesn't NASCAR have any Grand Prix-style road course racing over public streets?

Two places I'd love to see NASCAR drive:

1.) On the old Detroit street course that no longer exists.
2.) On the Cleveland Grand Prix course (the one on the airport grounds).

I'm guessing they don't drive on street courses because of all the sharp turns that would force the action to slow down in too many spots. Open-wheel cars can take these turns a bit faster than stock cars, I think.

Now that I would love to see! New York, LA, Seattle, Chicago, some City, any City with those cars whipping past skyscrappers, high end shops, latte stands, and the guys selling the fake Rolexes. That would be awesome.

F1 however only has one Grand Prix style race that is on City Streets and that is the Monte Carlo Grand Prix. All other races are held on race tracks set up for road course racing.

Champ Car has several races on city streets; most notable the Long Beach Grand Prix. Now that is some serious road course racing right there.

Because stock cars are lumbering behemoths on street courses? The lap times would be laughable even when compared to some totally amateur classes on the same course. The Montreal circuit that held the Bush race is composed of some purpose built sections and some public roads. I'm thinking NASCAR only has road courses in order to hold races in areas that don't have suitable ovals.

Las Vegas had a Champ Car race on the downtown streets.

I watched it on tv, and glad I did. Unless you had a TV, you missed most of the action, and overall I saw it as entertaining and many people thought of Bristol. It was a boring race, the finish was no where near close, and it was all put strategy.

I prefer the true road course or the oval road course setup.

I know. They want to bring Nascar to New York City so have a road race set up in Manhattan.

Fun to do but blah blah to watch. It's how I ride anyway when I get the chance to take the V-rod through the mountains and along the Clearwater here in Idaho. 'Course we don't have much traffic either and I will admit there isn't a competition with anyone beside yourself. Thanks, I did enjoy it. You just need a few fallen rocks and the occasional elk in the road. "tween the ditches and ride it like you stole it." or... "Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war!"

because street courses are bumpy, flat, and just plain boring.
Heck, even F1 only races on one street course: Monaco.
