Yes, just not very practical. Take a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine_aircraft_carrier

Yes as a matter of fact the Japanesse have already done that very thing. They had a fleet of these subs that once surfaced the hanger doors opened and these aircraft rolled out the wings unfolded and locked in place there was a short cable actuated runway to propell the aircraft off and into the wild blue yonder. The subs were sunk by the American Naval fleet after the Japanesse surrendered to one of the major conflicts, I don't want to spegify which one just in case I am wrong about the conflict, but the subs are at the bottom of the Bering Sea.

Damn rayco420 beat me to my answer...

The only problem with the Japanese carrier subs was they were effectively a one use weapon, once the planes launched they were not likely to come back.

I actually thought about the usefulness of submersible Carriers. the only major draw backs are the size, cost and the usefulness.

With little chance of a conventional war and no major world powers in conflict the expense and need for a massive submarine becomes moot.

It is a cool idea though.

Anything is possible if you have the money to research it, and construct it, but it would make a very big target for an enemy sub or bomber.

Sounds like you have been watching a lot of those Japanese Manga Sci-Fi cartoons though!!

Err. . . . ducky, I don't want to burst your bubble but that was a Japanese submarine with a hanger containing two planes on the deck, it was not an Aircraft Carrier in the conventional sense.

Where would the planes go? Have you ever seen an aircraft carrier? They are HUGE. I would think not but I am not an engineer.

Technologically possible sure. But that does not make it "possible." To make something possible you need to have a reason for it and be able to do it at a cost equal to or cheaper than other alternatives. In todays fighting force there are many technologies that are not used simply because they would not contribute to victory.

It's been done. Japan deployed submarines that could launch and recover aircraft during WW2.

The Japanese put planes in their subs in WWII, but it wouldn't be practical to launch many planes. An interesting idea though.
