Jesus is here, on the earth today. He has come as a "thief in the night", not only at an hour you didn't know but as a person you do not know. The true definition of Thief in the night is someone you never see, because you are asleep, and he comes at a time you know not.
We are currently in the birth pangs of Tribulation, with complete absence of rapture. All will be tried, but not equally. There are certain religions and beliefs that require much more difficult trials.
You can honestly expect the world "as we know it" to end in 7 years, and paradise to be established on the new earth. Just look at the signs, or simply watch the evening news. But if you don't believe now, chances are you never will. That is what the trials are for, to encourage you to believe in truth and faithfulness.

... and gone? I suppose once the earth is no longer needed, it'll go the way of Venus or Mars. Those planets are pretty stable, and they'll probably stay pretty much the same till the sun expands to swallow them.

I shouldn't worry about it too much, and as you seem a bit worried right now don't bother reading Revelations, the whole book is rubbish. So is the New Testament.
About as valid as Lord of the Rings.
All very interesting if you are interested in Sci Fi.

@Beachbum: Our star will never go nova, let alone supernova. It's not big enough, and not part of a binary.
At the end of its life - 5,000,000,000 years hence - it'll just swell up into a red giant, eating all the inner planets in the process, and then slowly cool down leaving a cinder and a huge expanding cloud of gas.

Read the Book of Revelation, it will tell you everything you need to know.
But if you are faithful to Christ, you will be taken up in the rapture. Those that are not taken up, will really learn what hell is like. Because the Anti-Christ will rule this world for 42 months.

If you are speaking of the 'Second Coming', read Revelations for all the gory details. Remember, however, that basically this speaks only of Earth and "The Heavens" (meaning the realm of God). The writer(s) of the Bible had no concept of other planets.

If you would stop listening to everything your hear and read the Book. You would realize it is not going to be the end of the World. Only a major change, as far as the ways we have been used to.

Jesus was a figurehead created for the Jewish splinter group over 1900 years ago.... He never existed. So if he shows up now, watch out... some one is playing you for a fool and will take your money.
(Don't forget to give tithes.... throw your money into the air and what God wants he will keep... the rest is yours)
