...well, of course it depends upon the answer...

...but all other things considered equal...

An atheist.

I'm a Christian and I give more thumbs up then down. I will sometimes give a thumbs up to an answer I disagree with if it is well stated or funny. I've even given thumbs down to some that I agreed with part of what they said, I thought they were being hate full. I don't give thumbs down just because I disagree.
But actually answer you question... I don't have a clue.

Both are equally likely. It's primarily dependent on the individual's personality.
If one is abrasive, confrontational, narrow-minded, or just seems to enjoy trolling, then they will be more likely to give a thumbs-down on any given answer.
(See the people that simply posted "Christian" or "Atheist.")
If one is generally more friendly, open-minded, and willing to consider that others' opinions are just as valid, they will be more likely to give a thumbs-up.

Personally, I only give thumbs-downs if someone is spamming, trolling, or contributing nothing to the post but inflammatory comments. I usually prefer to correct misinformation by editing my posts in response.

What is the question for which the rating is being given? If it is a very controversial topic, some wil just go down the list giving thumbs down.... Or at least it appears so to me... think there are only about 25 or so people who even rate answers very often.

I am a Christian and I certainly get my share of thumbs down - however, I think Christians have a tendency to thumbs down as well so that atheists will know the believer's disagree with the statement.

Hey! What happened to spell check?

Judging from which answers tend to get bad ratings, I would say Christians and Muslims both give many more thumbs down than atheists or pagans or others more tolerant. Jews seem to be most tolerant: I guess they've had longer to learn how.

I'm a pagan (witch) and tend to give more thumbs up for good answers than down for bad ones, unless they are really over the top.

Depends on the answer. For example, in this case the first answerer has much more thumbs down than anyone else. I have a hunch it's not the Christians doing that to her.

Both

Trolls, however, probably give the most.

If you look at the questions you see the pattern.

Pro atheist questions generate thumbs up in propotion to other pro atheist answers and thumbs down in porportion to Christian answers.

Visa ve

It's an obvious pattern based on party lines.

Christian
I tested this question a couple of days ago.
I have two accounts.
On the same question, I answered exactly the same, but I called myself an atheist the first time, and a Christian the second time.
I got tons of thumbs up as an atheist, and tons of thumbs down as a Christian.
Interesting.

I don't believe one group is more than the other. Giving a thumbs down isn't really relevant to being atheist or Christian.
