Besides all the excellent answers that you've received about brushing the gums and flossing daily, try using a rotary type brush that is rechargeable. I like the Oral B Braun, but Sonicare is another popular one. When brushing and flossing expect the gums to bleed and not avoid them when they do. Bleeding is there because of the plaque and debris that has caused the problem in the first place. It takes about 5-7 days to clear up the problem unless you have a lot of calculus buildup under the gums. Have your teeth cleaned every 6 months or maybe even at 3 or 4 months to check if you are doing your homecare correctly. Stimudents are wooden sticks made by Johnson and Johnson. They are wedged shaped and fit between the teeth. Use them after meals to keep the food out of the gums so the bacteria can not use it to make more plaque. Rinse with Listerine or Crest ProCare or just salt water (2 tsps/juice glass warm water). Unless your dentist prescribed a mouthwash for you. You can also brush for a few days with a paste of baking soda, pinch of salt, and enough Peroxide to make the paste stick to the brush. I wouldn't rinse with Peroxide everyday for a long period of time, but for a few days it is ok to do. Use a soft brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums. Brush for at least 2 mins. Change the brush every 2-3 months unless you are getting the rotary type heads, then every 3-4 months. Floss with a "c" shape under the gums with lots of up and down and circular strokes. There is a nice floss for sore gums called Gum Care by J&J. Unless your teeth are extremely tight and you have rough margins try this floss. It tastes great too. When you start flossing you won't be good at it, keep doing it. Floss first then brush because most lose interest after brushing and just go to bed or something stops them from completing both. Hope this helped.

1. Gargle with mild, lukewarm salt water every day. This is enough to kill germs.
2. Do you grind your teeth? Check with your dentist for signs of tooth grinding and get a night guard if you do. The dentist can make you an expensive, custom-made one, or you can buy them cheaper in the drugstore, but they don't fit as well. This cuts WAY down on damage to teeth and gums.
3. Brush your teeth and gums at least twice a day - GENTLY and thoroughly. Don't scrub your mouth like it's the kitchen sink - BAD habit.
4. Don't drink soda, or eat really acidy foods like pineapple.
5. Visit a good chiropractor who can adjust your jaw. A misaligned jaw is more likely to grind the wrong way and cause gum sensitivity.
Been there, done all of that, so I know!!

They only way to take care of gingivitis is to see your dentist for a referral to a specialist for treatment. Gingivitis is serious and needs to be treated by an oral surgeon or periodontist.

Make sure you floss every day, so the gingivitis will not turn into periodontal (gum) disease. Brush your gums with a soft brush twice a day and chew sugarless gum after meals.

Start flossing morning and night. Brush with a toothpaste that has peroxide and rinse your mouth with Listerine (the original rinse) and peroxide for at least 1 minute morning and at night. You must do this everyday. It worked for me, a long time ago. It should work for you, too. Good Luck!

A good preventative home remedy is gargling with salt water. It also helps with tooth decay, swollen gums, and sore throats.
