THE TRUTH IS THIS: SOME DENTISTS DO REMOVE WISDOM TEETH, BUT NOT ALL DO. THIS DEPENDS ON ONES COMFORT LEVEL WITH THE PROCEDURE. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A LICENSE.

If your pain is unbearable and is affecting you on a daily basis or a regular basis, you should call your dentist back and explain to the employees who schedule appointments, if you can directly talk to him/her and tell them that it is an emergency situation and you need to be checked out. If they cannot help you, you should google local dentists or oral surgeons in your area. When I got my wisdom teeth taken out, it was done by an oral surgeon and I suggest that you do the same. They have more training and are specialized in wisdom teeth extractions. If you cannot get in anywhere, your last resort would be going to the ER so that they can get you in to a doctor.

A dentist took all 4 of mine out right there in the office. Three were pulled, one was cut. In this case, they can, but if you require special care or need to be put under for the procedure, they can't.

They just numbed my mouth for the procedure. I was fully awake for the whole thing. No big deal, except the one they cut out. They couldn't give me enough numbing shots to fully get rid of the feeling, so I was awake and half numb, but felt all the cutting, digging and pulling. My root had grown into my jaw bone and they didn't know it until they started cutting. By then, it was too late to stop and too late to transfer me anywhere else. So the dentist flat out told my mom that he didn't know what to do next. Then he thought for a second, and started to cut into my jawbone, propped his foot up on the chair and leaned back, pulling as hard as he could with all his weight, while the whole time I'm feeling every move he;s making... Trust me...in my case, going to a surgeon would have been better......

They can, but some choose not to, and it is usually in the best interest of the patient. It is so much better to see an oral surgeon, this is what they do all day long, plus they can do IV sedation, which is the way to go! I work for a practice that that six oral surgeons. I would never go to a general denstist for wisdom teeth. It's better to go to someone who has 4 years more experience school wise. You'll be happy you did!

A dentist is not licensed to perform any surgical procedure on a patient. The removal of wisdom teeth is more complex then pulling any of the other teeth from the jaw and is considered a surgical procedure so you will more then likely see a dental surgeon when you have your wisdom teeth extracted.

The dentists prefer to take out your wisdom teeth BEFORE they grow out of the skin because it will make your teeth crooked once it grows out. So, that takes some surgery....dentists can't do that.

They can, but usually don't because of a couple of reasons. One reason is they usually give you an IV to put you to sleep and don't have the space in their office for that. Another reason is in case something happens and they have a hard time reviving you, they don't have the necessary medical equipment to bring you back. I worked for a dentist and those are the reasons he gave me.

They can if they've had the training and facilities requried. Wisdom tooth extraction is usually very involved and most often requires more sedation than what is available in a regular dental office.

They can take out your wisdom teeth, but will only do so if it is absolutely necessary.

They can't because they don't use anesthesia in a regular dentist office plus an oral surgeon is specailly trained in this field in case of problems.
