They are referred as Naval aviators. They are Navy and Marine Corps pilots.

The Navy "owns" the ship but it consists of all sorts onboard. Aircraft Carriers have mostly Navy personel with Marines stationed onboard and a few Marine pilots. They usually carry some civilians also depending on what the cruise is all about. Sometimes system engineers ride along to help in testing equipment...

The Navy and they are a very proud lot, oftentimes taking over a liberty town when the carrier docks at a foreign port. Those part of the Naval Air Squadrons not on carriers are called Airedales and I'm not sure the shipboard sailors are similarly referred to or if they have an additional appellation.

The aircraft carries are all navy, and the the pilots of those jets are also navy.
Navy fighter pilots are the third best pilots in the world, (number 1 is the Israelis, number 2 is the British). Fourth is American air force.
They are third because the top two kill a lot of pilots by flying lower to the ground in training than the US military allows.
