Some synonyms to gray are Ash, Dusty, Dusky, Smoky. I usually wait a few days until their personality really comes out and name them based off of that.

Why not wait until he shows his character. He can be 'kitty' until then. Cats get to learn their name from the 'intention' tone in your voice so no need to worry that he won't learn what he's called.
