two days ago i was wearing my contacts. a little after i put them in, my left eye started to get a little red. as this often happens when i am tired, i paid no attention to it, but i checked it a bit later and the bottom half of my iris was outlined in red, and there were red lines running to my eyelid. my eye was also itching. when i woke up the next day it was still red, but a little less red. it is still itching and the red is still around my iris. is this an infection? what should i do about my contacts? should i wear them or throw them away?

It could indeed be that you have an infection, or it may just be a simple irritation from dust, etc, getting into your eye. Don't wear your contacts, leave your glasses on for a few days and see if the condition improves. If it doesn't, and still feels itchy, visit your optician or doctor, and they will prescribe you some antibiotic eye drops. If it is an infection, yes, you will have to throw your current contact lenses away. My optician told me this the last time i had an eye infection.

Mostly it's just a irritation that you could have caused while inserting the lens, but it also may be the beginning of an infection.Don't wear them for a couple days and see your ophthalmologist-maybe you have a dry eye and should use different lenses and eye drops to support your tear film.

What you SHOULD do is to get your eyes and lenses checked out by an optometrist. Usually, it's just a matter of getting some eye drops and get new lense. If you mess around, it can turn into bad infections.

You need to not wear them and go see your eye doc. Sounds like you have an infection or starting an infection. Call your eye doc and get in ASAP.
