A personal collection of easy, simple, inexpensive recipes. Add some of the non-perishable ingredients and a kitchen gadget or two.
Consider stocking her "spices." This is something many people overlook. They can really add up fast when people are stocking a kitchen for the first time.

A laundry basked filled with useful household items (dish towels, cleaning products, toothpaste, toilet paper, scented candles, etc). We got this as a gift at our shower, and it was SO useful when we moved into our new place.
Something from her registry.
A gift certificate to a nice restaraunt, a bed and breakfast, or a marriage seminar.
Or matching bathrobes engraved with husband and wife's new initials. (You can get monogrammed bathrobes from Things Remembered.)

Lingerie (or gift card for a lingerie store)
Gather recipes and organize them for her
Wine-of-the-month club or several bottles of wine with glasses in a picnic basket (include a nice blanket)
Is she registered anywhere? Something nice from her registry that you know she'll like.

I like the idea of a bottle of champagne and two glasses.
I also like the idea of a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure.

Pots and pans, blender, toaster.... something for the home she doesn't have... look to see if she has a registery. Or give her a gift card that she can use to get something she needs.

I love the idea of a fire extinguisher for the kitchen -- (Cory C, thanks for the idea of my 'next' shower gift I have to get!)
Cookbooks are great - the Company's Coming series, especially.

i bought my best friend a bathrobe, good quality one, and had it embroidered, with Mrs.... Smith lets say. she absolutely loved it. it's a personal gift, but something that she can cherish and wear forever.
i love personalized gifts, but get her something that you yourself would enjoy recieving. that's what i did with my best friend,a nd she LOVED IT!
good luck, hope this helps.

I still love my standby - kitchen fire extinguisher, a cookbook and maybe some baking pans.

Ask her if there's anything she'd really want or need. That's the best way!
