Research shows that certain kinds of pedophilia and hebephilia (adults who molest teens) are caused when adults are made ashamed and detached from their adult sexuality. Unlike "fixated" pedophiles who molest children because they themselves are stuck in a retarded psychological maturation resulting from unresolved formative sexual and emotional issues, a "regressed" pedophile is an adult with a mature sexuality (either gay or straight) but they return to an earlier, less mature psychological state and engage in sexual contact with children due to stress, emotional trauma or repression or disgust with their own adult sexual feelings. This is exactly what ex-gay therapy does to gay people- make them ashamed, disgusted and repressed about having a sexual relationship with another consenting adult. When they cannot play it straight or leave and learn to be happy with who they are, who do they vent their sexual frustrations on?

Are our children more at risk now? What are your thoughts?

Georgia Peach, in no way am I suggesting we tolerate child molestation! Where did you get that from?

We should do EVERYTHING to prevent our children from being violated sexually by adults and that includes ensuring we do not create a risk by turning pefectly healthy gay people who can have fulfilling adult relationships into repressed, traumatised people who cannot express their sexual orientation with another adult out of fear and shame.

I know the ex-gay movement has a very high failure rate. So I am not suggesting it is effective.

Someone suggested that I implied gay people are more likely to molest children. Not true.

Most child molesters are heterosexual males. In addition same-sex, adult/child molestation does not necessarily mean the molester was homosexual. In fact many adults who are heterosexual in their adult relationships and molest children of the same sex. So I hope that clarifies things.

I don' know who coined the term, "Ex-gay" but it is one I hear used a lot.

I don't have a clue. I do know that the ex-gay movement is evil in itself, because it denies the right to sexual happiness to those whose tastes deviate from Biblical so-called "morals".

In our society. Men are made to be ashamed of being male. They're told they're the cause of every problem, but given no means to fix it. Also, what is seen as "age of consent" currently is 2-6 years past when someone would be sexually active in the past. Men are damaged because society needs a b i t c h (a weaker sex). Therapy on gays can help them to talk out their problems. Not all of it is shaming them straight. When it comes statistically, ex-gays are no more likely than life-long heterosexuals to engage in illegal sexual activity with minors. Also, I wouldn't call ex-gay a "movement", there's really not much volume of people involved.

Sorry but being gay and/or pedophilia has absolutely nothing to do with suppressing sexual urges. Pedophiles are sick sick individuals and gays are just gay. The ex-gay movement is a complete farce. The ex-gays are the ones suppressing their sexual urges and will end up leading unhappy & mixed up lives. Those are the ones that will get married to a person of the opposite sex and have affairs with someone of the same sex.

Actually, Robert Spitzer identified quite a number of ex-homosexuals who returned to a normal sexual orientation and established long-lasting monogamous mating relationships.

Your theory makes many outdated psychoanalytic assumptions. It also ignores the fact that homosexuals molest children and teens in numbers wildly disproportionate to their percentage in the population. Only 2-3% of men are homosexuals, but men commit most molestations, about half of which involve boys (i.e., homosexual molestations). This fact is explained by the paucity of ethical constraints about sexuality among homosexuals.

Sex was biologically designed for a mating relationship between one man and one woman, in which children are conceived who need the love of both their parents.

I think pedophiles have been around for a very long time and that it isn't till recently that it has been brought to light. As sick as it sounds im sure that this issue will go on, just as murder and rape and other horrible crimes go on.
I honestly feel bad for the men and women who have this disease, because that is what it is, a disease. I believe that they really have no control over it.

But i think that parents should bottom line, watch their kids. And thats all they can really do.

And the i think that society is coming around to a lesbian, gay, bi sexual, transexual lifestyle.

I agree with your point.

However, I don't like the term "Ex-Gay Movement" because it suggests that people can change their sexual orientation.

I'm not sure if this is your term or theirs, but I don't think it accurately describes people who repress their homosexuality for religious reasons.

i feel we as a society have the biggest impact on this topic, i mean look at micheal vick he fought dogs and a senator stood before congress and recommended the death penalty and they played it all over t.v., what about the priests who touched all of those little kids where did someone stand up and say he deserves the dealth penalty? our society is so twisted we have groups like p.e.t.a and nobody says anything for our kids? i believe that if a vigalante group arised for our children we could be a better society

well "fortunately" now the neocons that support "gay rehabilitation" that are also in control of many state legislatures are passing laws to execute child rapists.

so now they can just terminate their failed "experiments", right?

That is why people should come out of the closet. We know when they are gay. There is nothing to be afraid of. There is no hell!
