You will be far more valued in the marines with some trade skill. I'd consider joining Job Corp. This is a federally funded program to help young adults (16-24 years of age) learn trades and continue their education.

The program provides food, housing, medical, job training, education, and a small allowance. It will allow you to have a marketable skill and develop greater maturity in an environment that isn't as harsh as the marines.

With job skills and a high school diploma, the marines or any other branch of the service would love to talk with you.

To needhelp27 above me....

President Bush was the commander in chief when I was in Iraq and I came back, I would say your conclusion is logically false.

To the Questioner...
Start running, if your male start doing pushups, pull ups, and situps.

Bootcamp is not hard if you understand that the DI's are there to make you a better Marine, everything they do is designed around that.

In bootcamp all you have to do is what your told exactly when your told to do it. This is difficult for some people since they have lived most of their life doing what they want to do

You can still study your knowledge of the Marine Corps. So, you can be somewhat prepared mentally especially if you are aware of what to expect from your DI's. Not only doing well physically, but mentally will help you graduate as PFC. You are from VA so you will be sent to Paris Island.

Log on to Young Marines Program. It is for young people up through high school age. There may be a unit near you. That is the best way to get an idea of what it's all about.

I served 4 years in the military myself and grew up in a military family, my father was Air Force.

However, before joining any branch of the military, it's important to know who your boss is.

If you have a bad boss, no job is worth doing.

I suggest you wait another 1 1/2 years until we get a new commander in chief....unless you enjoy putting your life on the line for lost causes and padding the bank accounts of all those who are making a killing in record profits off the blood of our soldiers.

If you wait two years, and attend college, you will be given a much higher initial rank in any branch of the military, rather than the low rank you will be surely given right out of High School. Plus, we will have a new commander in chief who, hopefully, will not have the arrogance of the current commander.

I'm serious about this...the military can be a great career, or a great starting point, and it always looks good on any resume, but do not be too quick to enlist under this president, unless you like the idea of marching into Iran?

Join your schools wrestling team. The intensity should help you get prepared mentally and physically.

wait until bush is out of office that way you have a chance of coming back instead of the president trying to kill you off.
