Does it sound ok to put them in the spare bedroom with their food and water and litter boxes? I hate to leave them in there all the time, but I can't have the loud meowing that kittens do either. I'm gone most of the day and they might walk around the apartment meowing loudly all day, which would be a problem with my neighbors. They are very timid and shy yet, so they hang out in the spare bedroom anyway. I rarely see them! They are 12 weeks old. I want to socialize with them so they don't stay timid, or maybe thats just normal for 12 weekers. Any info would help. I guess primarily if it sounds ok to leave them in the spare bedroom most of the time and when would be a good time frame to take them out and explore the apartmnet more to get used to it. Thanks

Yes it sounds perfectly okay to do that. It sounds like they just need more time adjusting to their new home. Pretty soon they'll be brave enough to come out and explore, and before you know it they'll be everywhere. Mine sure are.

Putting them in the spare room sounds OK. Just so that you know, they will see this as 'Their Room' from that point on.
The best way I have found to deal with new kittens is to let them sleep in your room. Make a routine of it. Each night take them to your room with you. If you want to allow them to sleep on your bed, set them on the bed with you. Make sure they have access to their litter box. They will get the idea. The only drawback with letting them sleep in your bed is that it becomes their bed and they allow you to sleep there too.
The meowing during the day will subside. If they start off in a smaller area in the house and gradually work their way out to the rest it helps. Then their world isn't so much bigger than they are.

there is nothing wrong with leaving Two young kittens in one room for a couple of weeks. As a matter of fact it is recommended. Young kittens can be overwhelmed by the new space. Keep both together in one room with the food water and litter box in place. When you get home feed them scoop the box and love on them for awhile. This will get them into a cycle. They now know you are there new parent. You feed them and love them. In no time their new home will not be so scary and there will be alot less crying.

Well, maybe if you leave a clock radio on for them that would make them think that someone was there.. Keeping them a bit more quiet. Or have someone come and check on them at lunch to feed/water them and play with them.. They do need a bit more stimulation and cats are more of night creatures.... My sister kept her kittens in her bathroom with food/water/liter at night.. .It was easier to clean up if a mess happened... Good luck

Only if your walls are paper thin would a cat's meowing be a bother. It is unlikely that they would meow without a known 'listener' in anycase. Cats are not like dogs - that really would be a concern as barking is very annoying.

you need to do it now the socializing they are great the younger they are. they will love people much quicker if you are handling them all the time but not seeing them all day isn't good.

Kittens usually do that at first and then when they get used to their environment they will be fine.
