They work if I use F9, but otherwise they just keep their values until i hit F9. This isn't a huge problem it just seems odd. This problem is recent, so maybe it has to do with the fact that the excel file is 3MB?

You need to turn the Automatic Calculation option on.

From the menu bar in Excel go to:

Tools > Options...

Then select the Calculation tab.

Under the Calculation section make sure that the option button for Automatic is selected, then click OK.

With large files it can sometimes take a good while for Excel to automatically recalculate. If it is taking a good while to recalculate sometimes a person will turn the Automatic calculation off so they don't have to wait on Excel to calculate all of the time. That way it only recalculates when you either refresh the file by hitting F9 or by automatically recalculating when you save the file. Before it saves the file it will automatically recalculate.

Tools->Options->calculation tab

Make sure it it set to update the way you want it--I'm guessing whoever sent you that unchecked the box.
