You could put peas in it if you want.

SOS

4 oz. dried or smoked dried beef, torn
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce (optional)
Toast

Cook dried beef in butter until edges frizzle. Push meat to one side, blend flour into butter. Add milk all at once. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick and bubbly, gradually incorporating dried beef. Add Worcestershire and dash pepper. Spoon over buttered toast.
If like less salty, let dried beef stand a few minutes in boiling water. Drain on paper towels before cooking in the butter.

There's actually a recipe on the jar.

Here's the recipe from Hormel

Chipped Beef on Toast
Ingredients
- 1 package HORMEL® Dried Beef (2.5-ounce), chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 1/3 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 dash pepper
- Buttered Toast Points

Directions
In skillet, cook dried beef in butter 3 minutes. Stir flour into butter mixture; add milk. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 1 to 2 minutes longer. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and pepper. Spoon over toast.

Here it is. My dads own official army version.
Enjoy.

1 T Butter
1 Cup Flour
Evaporated milk, 12 oz can
1 Cup Beef Broth from about one cube of the dried stuff.
1 Tsb dried Parsley
1 Tsb Pepper
1 Can of Chipped or Corned Beef.
2 or 3 pieces per person of bread for toast
A shot or two from a bottle of your favorite Tabasco sauce. I like Habanero and garlic

In a sauce pan or big frying pan melt the butter on medium heat and add the flour and brown it. Now this is making a roux and I was surprised to see the French culinary influence in this dish. Add the cup of Beef broth and can of Evaporated milk and bring it almost to a boil while stirring it with a fork or a whisk. Stir in the can of beef and break apart with your spoon. stir in the parsley and pepper and once the sauce is at the desired amount of lumpiness place the toast on a plate and drench it in the stuff. Garnish with some shots of Tabasco sauce and Saltine crackers.

This dish can be made out of cheap canned goods and is a one pot meal that is pretty hard to screw up.

Simple! Make a basic white sauce (below) and chop up the dried beef adn add to the sauce. Add a little salt and pepper, and a handful or two of frozen green peas (they thaw/cook super-quickly in the sauce). Bring to a simmer, and serve over toast!

Basic White Sauce

2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk

In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add flour and stir until the butter and flour are well combined. Pour in milk, stirring constantly as it thickens. Add more or less milk depending on desired consistency.

There are so many ways to make this:

I like to put onion and hard boiled egg in with mine.

I saute an chopped onion in a little butter or margarine, add the chopped up dried beef and cut up hard boiled egg. Then add milk or sometimes I use half and half. Bring to a boil and thicken with a little corn starch mixed with water. I then serve it over buttered toast with a nice hot veggie on the side.

I sometimes use this same recipe to make "Sauce au Bin" which is a french dish made with fresh green beans instead of the chipped beef, or you can also use asparagus, Yummy.

1 lb lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onions
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon beef bouillon powder
3/4 teaspoon salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
cayenne powder, to taste
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 1/4 cups milk

1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onion.

2. Stir in the flour, granulated bouillon, salt, pepper, and garlic and onion powders (and cayenne, if using).

3. Saute all together until flour is absorbed, about 5 minutes.

4. Gradually stir in the Worcestershire sauce and milk.

5. Bring it all to a simmer, stirring, and cook until thickened, about 5 to 10 minutes.

6. Serve over toast, biscuits, noodles, rice, or potatoes.
