I use The Catholic Study Bible, the New American Bible translation. It's pretty big but it has some good notes as well as a reading guide.

Keep reading your New Jerusalem Bible. There will always be some parts you do not understand, that's okay. Its the parts you do understand that will matter the most.

I think, actually, the best study helper there is for Catholics is the Magnificat. It is just a fabulous series of meditations on the daily readings of the Mass.
