I handed in a resume to a store about 2 weeks ago with my friend. They just called her right now, and she asked if they'd call me too. The lady said 'oh, shes up next'. But coincidentally my phone was off, so my friend called me and told me to turn it on immediately. It's been 30 minutes, and I haven't heard from them. I want to call them, but what am I supposed to say? Any help is appreciated.

Your friend may have shot both your chances in the foot.

Some (smart) managers will not hire two new employees that are related or friends. The reason is that if one ends up being a problem employee you end up with 2 disgruntled employees instead of one.

I would wait until tomorrow and then call the manager to "check on the status" of your application. Do not mention your friend and tell your friend to STOP helping you.

Good luck.

I would call and say that I had a missed call from the number and it may be in reference to a resume you submitted. That should get you through to who you need to speak with. If you missed the call, then it will be like your just returning the call like normal. Whats the worst that could happen?

I would wait until tomorrow or Wednesday then call the manager to check the status of the app. Your friend has no business trying to get you job - this is independent and you need to show your prospective employer this. Wait for a little while then call. There's no need to mention anything about her though.

Wait till another day then call them and say you wanted to know your status. If too soon it will be obvious your friends told you, it can also be annoying for the employer.

They would have left a voicemail if they called. Just wait until next day and see what happens.

Maybe they mean up next if they need some one else. maybe your friend was the only spot they needed. Why have a cell phone if your going to keep it off?
