You shouldn't take any more than has been prescribed to you. Prozac, like any other antidepressant, takes time to work - up to 3 months, but you should see a difference usually within 6 weeks.
Generally the starting dose is 20mg, which is then sometimes increased to 40mg if there is no response. The maximum recommended dose is 60mg per day, but this will be associated with more side effects, particularly nausea/vomiting and usually increased anxiety.
You need to be aware that taking 4 tablets will not instantly make you feel better.........it won't even make you feel better tomorrow. It takes a long time for these drugs to get into your blood stream and to reach the correct concentration.
Depression needs to be treated with antidepressants, but also with some kind of therapy, or some kind of lifestyle modifications - if you don't actually change the problem, then the depression will never get any better.
So no, don't take any more, and stick to your prescribed dosage. If it's not working and you've been on it longer than 8 weeks, go back to the doctor who prescribed it.

Do NOT take more than your prescription. You will run out too early and the Doctor will refuse a repeat for you even if it seems to be working.
Prozac takes 10 to 14 days to start working (as the levels need to build up slowly or the body will waste it) so if you have just started any positive effect you feel is based on your emotions (psychological) - use this if you can, it can be a good substitute for the pills.

if you have just started this medication, remember anti-depressants can take up to 7 days before you can recieve the full benefit of the medication. if it has been more than seven days since you started this medication, and there still is no difference, call your doctor. he may want to put you on different medication. and also remember, anti-depressants can help you see clearer, but the reason you are depressed will still be there. its always a good idea to seek counseling while on anti-depressants.
