He's been dating his gf for about 3 years and they own a house together. My intentions nor his were to fall in love with each other, but it just sort of happened. We have a great relationship, have open conversations and thoroughly enjoy each other's company. But, he's still in his old relationship and feels like he can't get out until he sells the house. We've finally decided to take a step back, just be friends until he can work thru the situation and then see what happens between the two of us. I am in love with him and I foresee a wonderful future with him...and he feels the same. My question is, how long should I wait for this guy and should I be dating while I'm waiting?

you should definitely be dating other people, he probably has no intentions of ending his current relationship, don't let him fool you. You should stop all contact with him until he makes a decision, because right now he has the best of both worlds, he has his live in girlfriend and you as a backup. There are plenty of available men out there.

just be patient with him. A 3 year relationship is a long time to just jump into the dating pool again. He needs a bit of time to heal, and just be there for him as he does. You can't put a timeline on how long you should wait, but give him a chance. If he loves you as much as he says, he's worth waiting for.

You could be the 'rebound girl'. Don't wait too long.
