Over the counter meds are not effective. What you might want to do is wait a couple of weeks, then take a stool sample to your vet to have it checked to see if he needs worming again. If he was only done once, the eggs would have been left. Once they hatch, he'll need worming again.

Over the counter wormers are not effective.

If you are concerned about worms bring a fecal sample to your vet for testing. They'll be able to see if the dog has worms and what kind, and then will worm him after that.

Most people recommend having a fecal sample tested yearly. Its better to test for worms before treating, rather than just giving your dog a dose of wormer.

Goldens are prone to the same worms any dog is. These include roundworms, and tapeworms to a name couple. Tapeworms are generally only a problem if your dog has fleas, as these carried by fleas and dogs get them by ingesting an infected flea.

Good luck with your dog.

To determine if your dog needs wormed you should take a fecal sample to your vet and they will find out if and what kind
he has. Over the counter drugs are not effective for this and
you should always get meds from the vet. Some people do administer wormer at 6 month intervals if they live in an area where this is a constant problem.

If you use Heartguard there is wormer in it. That is once a month worming. Goldens can get any worm that any other dog can get. Dogs sniff the dirt, so parasites are a common problem.
OTC drugs are effective if the correct ingredient is in them. Most are just trash, but some are the exact same active ingredient as you get from your vet.

Its best to get them wormed quaterly, i have a scheduled check up sheet from my vet and deworming is listed on every quartly scheduled visit drontal is a very good dewormer
what it does is basically dries out the worms and eggs in him and it the worms will become digestable, it used this and my dogs have had any worms since

Get him tested every six months or so if you are concerned that he is exposed to worms, in areas where other dogs are .. dog parks, parks in general etc. Or the heartworm pills cover the worms now too...
Same worms as other dogs.. The over the counter drugs do not effectively erradicate worms.. They might slow them down temporarily but they don't get rid of them.

EDIT : TO the idiot above who is using my Avatar and username.. You have been reported.. Get your own life loser...

If the dog is an adult it should be fine unless you start seeing little rice looking things by its anal. If the dog scoots it rear on the floor it could also be a sign that it has worms or that its anal glands need to be cleaned out. The over the counter drugs are harder on their stomach so I always get that kind of stuff from the vets office.

GOLDEN RETRIEVERS are GREAT DOGS!!!!! You're gonna LOVE it!!

Take him in to a vet that you and your Golden Retriever like. I shopped around for my vet and finally found a guy who isn't out to ROB me, gets along with the animals, and is a no BS, no sugar coat, straight forward tell it like it is, guy. We take each dog in about once every yr or so.

The vet should be able to cure most worms.

have your vet check out the dog top be safe.
The vet can let you know if your dog has worms. Heart worm is the one that you need to be concernewd with. Once the vet clears him of it you can use over the counter medication.
