The country that CONTRIBUTES most to global warming is the US, the country with the highest TOTAL greenhouse gas emissions is also the US, the country with the largest CARBON DIOXIDE emissions is probably China, it may also top the list for methane emissions due largely to rice cultivation.

China hasn't published official figures for many years so estimates are based on information received from many different sources. It's probable that some time earlier this year China became the world's largest CO2 emitter. There are however other greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming and the US is the largest emitter of these.

All factors considered the US is still the largest contributor to global warming and emission levels continue to rise, but not as fast as China’s. In a few years time China will probably top the list in terms of total emissions no matter how you look at it.

Where there is more Capitalism, there is better quality air and water.

Compare the environments of China, India, Russia, Bangladesh, and Viet Nam to countries like France, Canada, Norway, the UK, and the USA.

Without any comparison, the Capitalist countries produce much more for far less pollution. Going green is a multi billion dollar business.

The United States and China are now essentially tied for most greenhouse gas emissions by a country, but since China's population is much larger, the USA dwarfs China in per capita emissions. The numbers in the links below are a bit old (2003), but give you a general idea.

Currently, China is the largest producer of greenhouse gases as a whole, but the U.S. is still the largest producer of greenhouse gases per person.

I would guess the US since we are more technologically advanced and most wasteful. Sorry, didn't really want to be number 1 in that category.
