how long is a piece of string. Depends where you are in relation to the nearest Ambulance

Notice to the Insular Americans! 999 is the UK emergency number OK

always dial 999 in an emergency, with sat nav & your address the crew will find you.
How long will it take depends on how far away you are from your nearest ambulance station, wether there is a crew at the station & not allready out on a red.
Personally if it was during the day & prehaps you have spinal/back pain & was as you say far away then I would send our air ambulance as long as after a series of questions the call prioritized as an air ambulance mission.
Also I would stay on the phone with you for as long as I could, reasure you & make sure the crew were given any extra info like landmarks for the aircrew etc.

Yes!
Call 999 (or 000 in Australia) and ask for assistance. Describe the situation you are in, your injuries and when and where it happened. You need to be extremely clear where you are for if you are not it may take longer to find you.
As to how long it will take before they find you, it depends on where you are, how busy they are, what priority they give your call, et cetera.
It is hope that you aren't lying in a pool of your own blood e-mailing questions to Yahoo. If you are dial 999 ........ ;-)

Whoever said less than ten minutes or eight minutes or anything like that is living in utopia... First of all it matters where you are in relation to the next available crew... In many parts of the U.S. the emergency system is so overrun thanks to major budget cuts, poor planning, shortage of of Paramedics ( because they don't get paid their worth ) and a bunch of morons calling for non-emergencies... So in some areas you are lucky if you get an ambulance within the hour.... No matter how desperate your emergency is. For those f you who think it is less, that is the ideal, but it is rarely the case anymore. If more people who believed it was less than 10 minutes stepped up and demanded that it be less than ten minutes to their mayors, and governors, and councilmen it would be that way but too many people never believe they will need them and then when they do they expect them to just be there instantly... Of course these are the same people that ***** about paying taxes for such services...
Oh and lying about your conditiona nd making it sound worse is not going to get anyone there faster as the person above described... Dispatchers in ost areas will not take on the legal liability of prioritzing calls so the idiot who calls with a toothache gets just as fast of a response as the person calling for someone in cardiac arrest - and trust me it's going to seriously piss of the medics when they do arrive if you lied on the phone, and in many areas you can be criminaly charged for that, so don't do it. You would be putting the medics lives at risk and the lives of others on the streets at risk by making them go lights and sirens when they don't need to, and possibly diverting them away from worse emergencies if they do prioritize... You can be held liable for that. So don't do it, unless you want to spend the first 15minutes after they arrive talking to the cops.

The scenario you describe is consistent with an incident where ringing 999 seems reasonable. The aim is attendance within 20 minutes, but that is not always possible.

Having to wait for professional help is better than aggravating your wound by trying to get to help yourself.

Relax... elevate your legs... Call the authorities.... Try to remain conscious... When (and only when) the 911 operator tells you to hang up, call a friend that is closer to you. Wait...
