Yes they can. I have seen many answers saying bad things about it but actually it is not that bad. I do not think first cousins should but actually I know of first cousins that married and their children have no problems, they are actually very pretty so 2nd cousins there should be no problems. Actually second cousins for me I don't consider them family. I actually don't know any of my second cousins and I do have them. And i guess that if i fell in love with my second cousin and found out that he was 2nd cousin i would still be with him, if i loved him why not? What is important is if you love the person really. So the bottom line is if the 2nd cousins love each other yes they should go out and no, their children will have no more problems than other people's children. Maybe even less because they love each other and maybe others that don't will bring their children a lot more unhapiness.

In the Bible, Jacob and Leah were both first cousins, and they had many healthy sons, if the Bible is true that is.

In history, many cousins got married, especially royalty. Racehorses often mate with cousins to produce foals, and the foals are healthy. I once saw a foal and a stallion named Secretariat appeared at least 6 times in his family tree.

But thats horses, not people. I wouldn't worry about disabilities with second cousins, you should be fine. I would be more worried about social problems, just keep it quiet that your second cousins.

what are you guys talking about. Well 2nd cousins are close but the baby will be perfectly fine. There are so many religions that cousins get married. AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAPPENS. like i have a pakistani friend and her parents were cousins and they got married, they had 4 children, all are fine .. one of them is my bffl .. and she is totally ok .. and she is like the 2nd smartest in the family. nothing happens .. so i dont really know what people are saying.

I heard an anthropologist say that disabilities/deformities are rare in children between first cousins and even more rare in second cousins. I think that couple will be made fun of by the rest of the family and society in general though.

I know that here in Washington state, marriage is illegal if the parties are 1st cousins or closer in relation. 2nd cousins can legally marry and there is little evidence that there would be any type of problems such as birth defects in their children.

"In 26 out of 50 states in the United States, and most other countries, first cousins can marry. Second cousins, third cousins, first cousins once removed, and any other cousins except first cousins can marry in all 50 states and every country in the world."

There's your answer (you can read more at the source link)...do what works for you two.

Ummmm no I don't think so, second cousins are a little too close in the gene pool I think...as for children, the chances are slim but you could have some issues with genes I guess..I'm no scientist but I wouldn't even take the chance.

In the UK you can marry someone who is your first cousin. I presume this is thought of as safe, as far as genetic defects in children is concerned. Second cousins should be safer still. They only have one eighth of their DNA in common.

Some ppl find it inacceptable, but i think it's ok. My grandparents from both sides are cousins, and there's nothing wrong with my mom or dad (no physical or mental disabilities or anything), in fact they are both smart, my dad has an engineering degree and my mom is very successful. there is nothing wrong with me or my siblings either!

No way.... 2nd cousins shouldnt be doing that kind of stuff. They have the same blood. No one should be going out with family members ... thats sick.
