I have hypothyroidism, lately I am feeling depressed and have had slowly been gaining weight. Trying to lose the weight is becoming more difficult. I read about a product called Alvidar. Has anyone used this and what type of results have you achieved? I am on Synthroid but it seems to not be helping my symptoms even though my blood tests show normal thyroid range. Any comments on what may have worked for you?

Before thinking of any diet product, make sure you have the thyroid stuff right first. This means having the morning TSH around 1.0. If its higher than 1.0 it can make it difficult to lose weight.

Second, get a free t3 test to see if you are converting T4 into T3. The free t3 should be above midrange. If it isn't, think about switching to a T4/T3 thyroid medication. Taking a med like Armour helps with symptoms such as fatigue, depression, hairloss, and muscle and joint aches.

Third, sometimes the increased weight from the hypothyroidism causes insulin resistance. Get a fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and an A1C blood test to find out. Insulin resistance makes it difficult to lose weight. I'm both hypothyroid and I have insulin resistance. These are the things I tried. I am now on Armour thyroid with relief of almost all hypo symptoms and I'm on Metformin ER for the insulin resistance. I gained 60 pounds while hypo. I have lost 30 of the pounds and I'm shooting to lose at least 20 more.

Below is a thyroid diet and exercise forum.

Sounds like you could have both an overactive or underactive thyroid. Call and ask for the numbers. The variety for TSH has transformed a couple of years to zero.three to three.zero, but such a lot labs nonetheless have the variety at zero.three to five.five. A TSH over three, zero will have to be handled with thyroid therapy, as even though bodily signs don't seem to be displaying, the situation can reason ldl cholesterol phases to upward push. Find out your numbers and the following time you experiment, ensure its a the very first thing within the morning experiment. If in any respect viable even have the loose t4 and loose t3 with the TSH.

I had the same thing as u but, I had a lump so I had to have part of my thyroid surgically removed. I had the weight gain too. I would get on some meds for depression to help u.

I'm on synthroid too, but I have my dr. do a TSH and insist that she give me enough synthroid to bring the TSH down to around 2.

I need to go back because my hair is getting sparse. I'm chronically depressed (being treated) and have weight problems, too.

I don't know anything about Alvidar. If you get some answers, would you mind letting me know?
