I want to track my time (eg 45 minutes, 27.2 seconds), but excel seems to only allow daily time measurements (ie 1:45 pm).

Go to the cell you want to use, and open the Format menu. Choose "Cells". Go to the Number tab.

Scroll down to the "Time" listing, and there are multiple format that include seconds that you can use.

If you can not find one that is perfect. scroll all the way to the bottom of the listing and select "Custom". You can create your own format there. There are examples in the listing of how to set up time formats.

If you need that format in multiple cells, you can copy it to where ever you need it by copying the original cell.

format cell to the 00:00:00 format, i use this for that reason, for minutes and seconds, 00:23:56 is what I enter, if you then add up your times, it will then add the hours also.
