The root-meaning of the name (from Gothic root gheu; Sanskrit hub or emu, "to invoke or to sacrifice to") is either "the one invoked" or "the one sacrificed to".

Maybe if we reverse the first and last letter. Dog is much better no?

Everyone likes dogs (well maybe not Michael Vick) and it might bring a little credibility back to the religion.

If they're praying to dog instead of god then it wouldn't look so ridiculous when one of his followers did something that is totally off the wall.

Just a thought.

The root meaning of a word is often different from the current meaning.

Look up "nice," for example.

The word 'God' in Hebrew is 'elohim'.. Bible Old testament is written in Hebrew.. that's why I would prefer sticking to it.

I think that is a paganistic definition / etymology of the word...

i think we have lost the meaning of christianity more then the meaning of god god and christianity are meant to in my personnel opinion represent truth honesty and being kind to people and animials around you and also being kind and respectful to your sourroundings no one seems to really up hold that view any more

god, to me, is the mystic force of the universe which everyone is a part of and nobody owns.

as it is said way before , human twist and interpret things to suit themselves.

a usual dog can 'turned' into a fire spitting dog after 100 years of translation
