I have a 7 yr old persian-siamese mix neutered male cat that is usually very well behaved. But for the last several weeks he's been having urine accidents all over our house. This is very unlike him. Nothing has changed within our home to make him upset, and his "box" is changed on a regular basis... Is it possible that he could have a UTI (urinary tract infection)? Or could something else be going on??? He is overweight; last time he was weighed he was 17 pounds, and he's been vomiting more than usual (with and without hairballs) about every other day. Our vet doesn't seem concerned...
Thank you for any answers you can give.

It probably is a UTI. When they have one they typically do have accidents. I can't help you with the vomiting though. If your vet doesn't seem concerned maybe you should get a second opinion. Good luck and I hope your kitty feels better.

Holy crap, your vet doesn't seem concerned? Either you made that up or you need a new vet.

Get your cat seen ASAP, and I mean NOW. The fact that he's overweight and also vomiting suggests he may have more than just a UTI, it may be affecting his kidneys as well. Please don't delay, find a vet who IS concerned, get blood, urinalysis, and GET THAT CAT ON A DIET.

Your immediate risks are bladder blockage (common in neutered males with urinary tract disease) and hepatic lipidosis if he stops eating all together (which he probably will as the disease affects him more and more). Both of these are fatal and VERY painful and require hospitalization and intense nursing care to recover from. Even then some cats still don't make it, so please do not delay.

Have you changed the brand of litter you use? Have you changed his brand of food? Have you gotten any new houseplants? Have you put down anything to get rid of ants or other bugs? Are you using any new/different cleaning supplies around the house? If so (on any of them), you need to stop using whatever's new and go back to the old brand immediately. If none of those is the case, you should definitely take him to the vet -- a different vet. If it isn't a reaction to any of the things I mentioned above, it sounds like he has some kind of an infection or illness that's making it difficult for him to control when he needs to urinate, and also the vomiting. I'd find a different vet to consult though.

Go to another vet and get a second opinion. Put a litter box in as many rooms as possible. Help him losing weight.
Sounds like UTI, but vet needs to test for it.
Best Wishes,

Yes it is possible he has a UTI, especially if he's peeing on "cold" floors like tile.

It's also possible that he may be diabetic, especially since he's overweight. One of the main symptoms of diabetes is frequent urination.

If your vet doesn't seem concerned about this then I suggest you find one who does. What you describe is a cause for concern.

Good luck.

GET a new vet- UTI is very likely - one other thing -how is he eating? drinking? 17 lbs is too heavy- my cat was 18 when we discovered he was diabetic- did the vet do a blood panel?urine sample? vomiting is consistent with high blood glucose but also kidney failure- Get him checked again.
