I saw this on a commercial. I always thought that too much dairy would actually make you gain weight.

I agree that it is hype. I unintentionally lost about five pounds after I eliminated dairy from my diet. Sure, one needs calcium and other nutrients that can be found in milk, but they can also be found in foods, too, such as spinach and broccoli and soy. I don't buy it, figuratively or literally. Before my pregnancy, I was a healthy six feet 165-170, eight and a half months later, I've only gained 30 pounds.

Besides, there is a bunch of artificial stuff in milk that is quite repulsive. It MAY be true, but I don't need the stuff and milk overall, as I'm not a baby cow, but an adult human.

I know people who eat several servings of dairy daily, yet, they're not exactly thin. Also, I find it interesting that our culture consumes high amounts of dairy for bone strength, supposedly, but there is still a high rate of osteoporosis. Go figure.

The following link is an article that is similar to articles I read earlier this year, including the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. I thought it to be quite interesting. (I found the article by doing a search, "dairy and weight loss" that yeilded some good-looking stuff, but I do not have time to research as I have to get to a pre-natal appointment.

The vitamins and nutrients in milk; calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, protein, vitamin D, and others do help in you body's health. Every decade or so though a new study comes out saying dairy is great for you, or it is bad for you. There are solid studies out there that show dairy intake on a daily basis can help your immune system as well as help provide solid nutrients to the body, some of which can lend to the reduction of the waistline due to enzymes that break down fat and other weight increasing enzymes in the body. However, not every person will have the same results or be able to digest all dairy items. The best thing to do is try incorporating a variety of dairy items into your daily food intact and monitor how you feel over a few days. IF something seems to be fine start monitoring your weight and measure your waist. If you don't feel so good or are in the bathroom too much or having constipation, lay off the dairy or reduce your intake. Eating frequently throughout the day and making wise food choices is the best remedy to losing weight. Regular exercise as well, 20-45 minutes 3x a week will do infinitely more than just drinking milk.

Non-fat, aka Skim, milk is a good protein for someone who is trying to lose weight. It's high protein, high calcium, high in Vitamins A & D (most milks are fortified with them). Dairy only makes you gain weight if you drink whole milk, put heavy cream in your coffee, and eat ice cream every night. Remember: everything in moderation.

No. It's hype to sell milk. Actually I do low carb and can eat cheese, cream, cream cheese and it not affect me. I cannot drink milk as there are too many carbs in milk. But I consume quite a lot of dairy with no problems. I lost 50 pounds on Atkins and it's been 3 years and I haven't gained one pound back but low carb is a lifestyle change for me and not a diet.

Not true. Whole milk is FULL of fat. But I'm not saying to avoid dairy, your body needs the calcium. 2% or skim is just as good for you without as much fat. Lowfat yogurt is another good option.

But milk as a weight loss drink? Nahhhh.

Consider this: we are the only species that continues to drink milk after infancy. Typically milk is meant for weight gain as it contains a lot of enzymes and fat.
