Well considering it is held on with 4 bolts and just sitting on the posts, I would not trust them for much over 400 pounds.
Anything more and you could rip it right out of the sheet metal

It all depends...you can gently set a 400 pound barrel of oil in the middle of it and be ok but drop that barrel of oil onto it and you'll be buying a new tailgate. That means yes, you and your 300 pound girlfriend can set on the tailgate together.
