The advantage of engineering is that you are a scientist that applies the knowledge to the necessities of the humankind. That is, you really understand what you are doing when you do something, and if you don't, then you have to do research before you try to do something, otherwise your mistakes can be very very dangerous.
Engineering school is difficult, stressful and can take you longer that you thought, but at the end it pays you back on the job market. Engineering jobs are very well paid, you can work around the world, you can start your own business, you can do almost everything you want; but when you say that you are going to do something, you don't have any other option than deliver the job on time and under the agreed circumstances, so you have to be intelligent, responsible and hard-working.
Don't forget that you certainly will need to learn a lot about maths, programming, chemistry, physics, electricity and many other hard-science fields, as i told you before, an engineer is nothing more than an applied scientist.

The advantage is that most jobs pay well. You should have a better understanding about how the world works and interacts. You get to take stuff apart and put it back together in a better way.
The disadvantages: most jobs get pretty stressful, Surviving engineering school and doing well is a lot more work then the people who major in Poli Sci with a minor in alcohol poisoning.

You wouldn't just start piling concrete blocks and metal into a river and hope to build a bridge. Even if you made it "look" like a bridge, how would you know if it could hold your weight? the weight of you and a horse?, the weight of a car?, the weight of a loaded truck? You wouldn't know just by throwing something together out of some materials that look like a bridge.
Using engineering, you can design that bridge with the proper materials and contruct it properly so you would know how much weight it could carry. That is an advantage of engineering. In a broader context, this example of engineering is performed for safety reasons.
A disadvantage of engineering, is that we become dependant on the devices around us that have been designed by engineers. We become dependant on that bridge to get us across the river. We become dependant on the machinery that aids in production of food, the factory that processes our food, the trucks, roads, bridges that transport our food. We become dependant on those devices that give us instant information and access to information.
Should a major engineered 'system' fail (electricity, water supplies, fuel supplies, etc.) how would you eat when the food ran out in your cupboards (and the local grocery store)?

advantage: u get ALOT of money!!! engineering is the highest paying job in the world. and its lots of fun!
disadvantage: if u break it u bought it! a lot of responsiblities (would u like to take the blame for a collapsed bridge or global food poisioning?)
so if ur responsible, dedicated & wants 2 be rich, then go be an engineer

The advantage is technology.
The disadvantage is technology.
Think about it... what has been created that is useful and what has been created that is destructive.
