There is no "must" about it; you will either suffer an immediate down feeling or a rise in anger emotionally and you can't stop an emotion but can control what you do about that emotion. If the criticism is warranted, that is you are guilty of doing the wrong eliciting the harshness then you have the choice of changing your behavior or ignoring the criticism. If the criticism is unwarranted, in your opinion, then tell the criticizer this fact and go on about your business.

A person who uses harsh words or even physical abuse to get their point across either feels unwarrantably superior to the criticized or is insecure. You might point out to him or her that politeness will get a better response from you than abuse. This will defuse his or her anger and sort of put them in their place.

In any case you always have the option of just "tuning them out" and ignoring them.

Good luck, good health, peace and love!

I don't take criticism very well at all so I know how you feel. Just try to think that this person is not going to run your life look at it as advice that they are giving you whether it is good advice or not. If not just listen and tehn don't worry about it if it is something you feel like you need to change in your life then change it.
