We just realized he's only claiming zero after wondering why so much darn tax money comes out of his checks. We have no children, I don't work... should he claim one or two to maximize his paychecks without owing at the end?

Since you do not work, he can claim 3 and be within pocket change of breaking even at tax time. There might be a small bill or refund, normally within $50 of even money in most cases. Claiming 2 will assure a smallish refund. Anything less than 2 will result in too much tax being withheld.

He can basically claim 2. I've also attached a paycheck calculator website to see how much you should be having withheld from paychecks. He can then check with hr/payroll dept to see how many exemptions he can claim.

He'd be pretty safe claiming two.

0 if he wants a refund
1 if he wants to break even
2 if he is brave and can handle owing the feds $$$

No kids and you have no job ?
What is up with that ?
What if he was in an accident ?
How would you survive ?

But if you are in school , that is a form of job . . .
You are preparing to be viable !
