I know that the only real way to get rid of, and prevent split ends is to trim my hair every 6 weeks or so, but a trim is the same price as a normal hair cut and I cannot afford to get my hair trimmed that often. I usually get a hair cut twice a year or so.

My hair has REALLY bad split ends, and I will be getting a haircut in the near future, but that won't be until mid-September. Is there any way to help keep the split ends from getting worse or keep my hair from breaking too much before I get the haircut. I generally do not use a blow-dryer. (Once in a blue-moon if I want to try to get my hair to hold a slight wave). I don't straighten my hair because it's already straight. I use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week to remove build up, but normally I use the Aussie Cleanse and Mend shampoo and conditioner...and I use a LOT of conditioner.

My hair is color treated, but my last dye job was in early March.

well, there is one of your problems, you use A LOT of conditioner. too much conditioner can be bad for your hair. use the right amount for the length of your hair and make sure you are rinsing it all the way out. and spend the money on professional products. Store bought products do not do anything to reverse damage to hair. They usually only coat it with wax. which causes weight on the hair, which causes more breakage. If you want to color your hair, use a demi permanent color, no ammonia=no damage.
