Ending chaos in Iraq?
In Anbar Province, the U.S. made a deal with the Sunni's. 'We will stop killing you if you stop killing us, and we will withdraw all our troops and allow you to police your own area....plus, we will give you weapons.' ( Not to sure about this last idea?)
The result was the Iraqi's policed their own area, removed AlQaeda elements and foreigners, and made Anbar a secure area.
This was not a military victory, or an indication that the "surge" is working, but a poster child for the idea of withdrawing our forces and allowing the locals to resolve their own differences.
It's working in Anbar Province, so why not the whole of Iraq?

An article on Yahoo News the other day disturbed me: when contractors do work in Iraq they have 1 of two choices for security: pay off insurgents, or purchase a security service. Paying off insurgents is usually cheaper. Some of these are US contractors. We are effectively paying for the enemy's supplies. THAT has to stop. I would say, effective immediately either the US army provides security for all contractors or their work is suspended. We cannot fund and fight an insurgency simultaneously, that is purely idiotic.

1) The government can accept the difference in cultures and stop trying to change the beliefs in the middle east.
2) Help them establish a basic government within the next year.
3) Set a priority list to break down temporary bases first and then follow with permanent bases.
4) Work to pay back the forign debts acquired through this war within the next 50 years.
5) Increase border patrol, US customs, and homeland security (which Bush approved to decrease by nearly 50% in mid 2006.
6) Strengthen ties with current and previous allies.
7) Allow the troops who served short tours in the middle east the money they should be entitiled to (Bush extended the lengths required for short tours to prevent the government from paying more money to the troops for being overseas in the middle east.) This would prevent loss of troops from the military and gain the trust back in the people of the US.
8) Invest in alternate fuel sources to prevent further conflicts involving oil in the middle east.

Our guys should segregate the country, send people to their half of the country then split it. We've tried being nice and we're getting killed for it, its time to get tough, im not on about murdering innocents or being brutal but like the Israelis in the West Bank and the Soviets in Eastern Germany its time to create new borders along homogenous lines if we are to ever have peace in Iraq.

Bring Iraq out of the middle ages, and let them develop modern attitudes about personal, professional, business, and diplomatic relations.

Clamp a curfew 24/7, if you break curfew you get shot and that means men, women, children, dogs, cats, goats, camels, rats, roaches or anything else that moves. Maybe when their belly button is touching their back bone they will start to work on the problems.

Well in my opinion. Just an opinion. I think we should take the gloves off and treat this like a war. We have to make the locals more afraid of us than the insurgents so they will stop letting them hide in their houses. They need to turn them in. If they hide in a Mosque, blow it up. In a village, blow it up. I doubt we worried about such things when we bombed Japan. If this is war, we need to act like it.

Bite the bullet and admit that the Country is not ready for a western style democracy and hand over the place to the most promising General they have. Then let that leader slaughter who he has to in order to bring peace.

Well chemical and biological weapons seemed to work pretty good for Saddam Hussien.
Aside from that we are going to have to sit it out until the enemy realizes that we are not leaving.
Right now they think there is a chance that they can out last us, gee I wonder what gives them that idea.
