when you bring your cat into the vet and she/he sends you to the cardiologist or to get a test from another doctor or clinc, does that doctor or clinic than pay your vet for the referral?

NO.

However the vets/specialists may be friends and be in the same circle and one may buy the other dinner or something.

But they do not get a check.

Medicines and special foods that a vet sells they may get "kickbacks" in the form of discounts that they get a bigger cut the more they sell.

No
The only thing they may get is a referral back. If a vet is recommending a specialist, I would consider it as many vets wouldn't do that and would try to treat the problem themselves even with lack of knowledge
best of luck

you know they do. in fact some doctors get kick backs for nearly everything they do. the problem that is bad is when you hae a animal you are bringing in for shots and the vet takes the animals does scrapings for mange and then does something else for ring worm and then has neither this is a bad vet and leave after that tell him off first cuase it willcost over 100 for what was not planned.
