I use them as a soil conditioner. I don't expect them to add nutrients. I do expect them to improve the texture of soil to keep it more friable and open to rain soaking in and roots penetrating.

It works great although unfortunately we only use instant coffee now so that conditioner is tough to come by.

The carthworms like it and You get a larger population of them with all the usefull effects for the soil.
