Well, that's kind of the protestant way, isn't it? Especially in the U.S., protestants sort of think of church as some sort of democracy where they can get enough votes to control any given part of the church.

They should have worked out their differences privately, and if this fellow wasn't satisfied, he should continue in the church in prayerful patience or if he's really opposed to what the preacher is teaching, he should find a different congregation.

It sounds like your church is deacon possessed. The reason I said that is because in denominational churches the deacon has authority over the Pastor. This is not scriptural. Petions of this nature cause divisions and God is not the author of confusion. To answer your question of whether he can do it...absolutely if the person gets enough people behind him. This sort of thing is devilish in nature and God is not in it and neither should you.

Read I Timothy and Titus, for a description of how the church should operate. If the pastor is in violation of the words Paul gave to his two proteges, then yes, the pastor needs to go.

If it is just a personality conflict, or a minor discrepancy in theology, then the rabble-rouser needs to just suck it up.

Legistically speaking, it all depends upon the bylaws of the organization y'all belong to.

Ethically speaking, it's all good. If there is ought against any "brother", whether saint, sinner or minister, biblically, morally and ethically, they can remove someone from being thier "leader".

Although, it might be an easier thing for those people to just "leave" to someone else being their head.

Most "pastors" today are in very unbiblical positions to begin with. They have too much unquestionable power that the Bible never gave them. So I applaud anyone that will stand against it for whatever reason.
