The church needs to fill the needs of the people. I don't know why it can't be both ways if the church is teaching sound doctrine to the flock. Times change so we have to be adaptable to this. I think both sides of music should be used if this is what is desired. We are the church and can worship God through any means that hearts can get there. God uses music, the Bible, the preacher, other people and a lot of other things to speak to his people. We have to be open for anything that might lead people to Christ. So why not use contempary music if this is going to draw people? A lot of churches mix the music. They all speak to the heart, if, you are willing to let God accomplish what He is striving for. We should not stifle the Spirit and are we not doing this if we limit Him?

The emphatic Word of the Living God does not ever change. It is the same yesterday, today, and forever; any "church" that changes the Doctrine in any way to make it more comfy to the ears is in big trouble.
God states that he will visit those pulpits,
carrying a large rod of iron. He will begin by pulling out the center support beam of the building and allowing it to crash down right on their little ol heads, and they deserve
it. I will let the "rod of iron" be left to your
imagination as to what he intends to do with that. He is not a happy camper when it comes to anyone "updating", changing or in any way fudging His Word - the truth is a two-edged sword and cuts both ways.
The truth can hurt, but that hurt will heal over and you will have a stronger, more learned
congregation for it. The Word is for teaching, not for changing so that its more
pallitable for people; this would be a church that i would not like to be anywhere near
when Christ returns.

It's always good to consider tradition to keep your beliefs strong, but people seem to not notice how traditions NEED TO CHANGE WITH THE TIMES. A tradition that was cool maybe hundreds of years ago, you can bet most likely will not assimilate well into this particular modern society. Depending on the people ofcourse.

But adults' needs no matter what are never fickle?
When I was forced to goto church, and i was raised hispanic catholic, tradition was what was in and holy buddha it was boring. If the emotional self-floggings weren't enough to make me not enjoy it, the long and boring traditions sure as hell sealed the deal.
I don't understand how they dont realize people feed off energy, thats why baptist and evangelical churches are always so....energetic.

Wouldn't it just be better if they told the truth and taught the bible? I mean don't we have enough teen pregancy and drug abuse and STDS. Singing songs that are upbeat and because they mention Jesus in the lerics make it acceptable?
Most of these kids say that church is like a rock concert for Jesus. When asked what did you learn from the bible?
they don't have a clue. The children in question are very promiscious and drink heavy and use drugs.
Said they passed the basket to collect funds numerous times.
The children take a roll of one dollar bills to put one in each time rather than a 10. bill because if you put that in they look at your funny if the third times you don't continue contributeing.
IN fact throughout the evening. So that was basically all they learned. She said, "If you go and sing loud and contribute money your saved forever" Your actions can be anything you want your saved.

Jesus was NEVER interested in the "fickle needs" of people that want entertainment. Read John 6. That chapter is the death of the "emergent church" heresy, which is filled with unsaved people that claim to be "christians".

Read Julien's answer above mine. Pathetic that even some atheists know this, and "christians" don't (though I would suggest to you from a study of the Bible that they're not Christians at all, based upon what they believe).

It is more important for the church to teach Jesus Christ and the knowledge of him that is what leads to ever lasting life. the churches need to teach not be cutting edge. Satan will change to anything even cutting edge to lure you in.

Traditional, because cutting edge isolates its older followers and has little substance to it. What it needs to be above both of those, however, is legitimate in its foundation, and tolerant in its teachings. A church that finally takes "judge lest we be judged" to heart...

The most important thing for any church is to follow the directions that God has given us in the Bible.

This is the biggest problem of religion. The Churches are trying to please people and not God!

It's always best just for the Church to follow what the bible says. if that conflict with the young genrations views or the traditional views then tough.
