For the benefit of those who say it's amazing: that picture is FAKE. It's not even a very good one. Look at the black square around Mars. The partial eclipse is real, and judging by how low the Moon is in that picture I suspect it was the one from a year or so ago that was visible at moonrise in the UK. Mars has just been cut and pased in, badly. It's bad enough we've had the e-mail hoax going around. Do we really need people faking pictures of it and perpetuating this ignorant nonsense still further? Edited to add: OK, so I got the analysis of the eclipse part of the picture wrong (I did say it was a guess), but that doesn't alter the fact that Mars was not visible and your picture is a fake.

I don't know about last night's lunar eclipse, but here is symbolism of a solar / lunar eclipse in the Bible.
"The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come." Joel 2:31
This is just one of many scriptures that describe the same event.
I guess some people just take the Bible too literally. i.e. : mypublicident.

In spite of the number of lunar (and solar) eclipses that would have happened during the time period covered by the Bible (about 1500 years), there is not a single mention of an eclipse in it. The Jewish apparently saw them as regular events, that they were able to track and predict, and not as supernatural signs as many other religious and cultures did. So they attached no religious significants to eclipse, last nights display would probably have gotten no mention.

I dont know about the bible but, it was awesome!!
Beauty
we got some great pics!!
I think this eclipse was significant because the
week befor u could see the moon moving backwards
as opposed to following
and lunar movements are relative to the great scheme of things....
but wow to see the rising sun reflecting on the surface
of the moon setting was beautiful...!

Can't ever remember reading in the Bible a description of a lunar eclipse. In fact, why would it need to describe it when you can watch one a see it for yourself.

Pretty damn' stunning. I wish I could have pulled Christopher Columbus' trick when he landed in Jamaica and met some decidedly unfriendly inhabitants. He said he would turn the moon red, which it did because of the lunar eclipse, and they all left him alone. I wish I had that kind of timing!

jimi4950: thumbs up from me dude, ANYONE who can that blindly believe and is willing to be spoon fed their beliefs has GOT to be special, T.U. for you man........
reallytrue101: I seriously hope you do not have kids, I mean, you can stone them if they disobey you, right? If the bible is the "living word of god" and "you have no intention of adding anything to it" you must take it verbatim at face value then, right? I certainly fear for any homosexuals you may/may not know, I mean leviticus CLEARLY states what must happen to them.......
kaboodle: wow....just....hmmmmmm, yeah.......

Since in the bible, the Earth does not move, the moon got in our shadow from the sun, which orbits the Earth. Hope these verses are what you are looking for:
Psalm 93:1, Psalm 96:10, and Chronicles 16:30 state that "the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved." Psalm 104:5 says, "[the LORD] set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved." Ecclesiastes 1:5 states that "the sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises."

The Bible actually says not to waste time believing in mere superstitions!
1 Timothy 4:7-8 (Amplified Bible)
7But refuse and avoid irreverent legends (profane and impure and godless fictions, mere grandmothers' tales) and silly myths, and express your disapproval of them. Train yourself toward godliness (piety), [keeping yourself spiritually fit].

God didn't feel the need to describe it in the bible and be recorded. He made the Universe and understood what was going on.
